Comments about MSR Miniworks EX Water Filter:

I used this filter on a 9 day, 2 person canoe trip.Great filter, rugged, simple, and toolless takedown. I only had to clean it once.
The only con was that the intake line float kept falling off and , eventually got lost.

Comments about MSR Miniworks EX Water Filter:

Have the 'old' model and used it extensively over the past 10 years. Did not do well in Scottish Highlands due to peat remnants in water! I can't imagine that any filter would do well with that water though. Worked well everywhere else (including Labrador and Alps). Flow rate is lower than advertised! Fits onto various water containers which eliminates need for extra hoses. Easy breakdown and field maintenance. Quick to drain (a + in freezing conditions). Very durable! Get spare parts kit with it (better to have and not to need than to need and not to have!!)!

Comments about MSR Miniworks EX Water Filter:

Was easy to use and smaller than i thought. Water tasted just like from the tap. Only thing i would complain is pumping it. it can take a while and is almost tiring if you are filling several containers. Though it is a pump so i guess you would have to assume that.

Comments about MSR Miniworks EX Water Filter:

This filter had good reviews from others, but I found that it only worked well the first day of our four day hike. I was filtering water from clear mountain pools. I cleaned it as directed after using it the first day, but by the second day I had to clean it after filling each water bottle or the flow would dwindle to drops. At least it is easy to take apart and clean.

Comments about MSR Miniworks EX Water Filter:

Recently used this on a 4 day backpacking trip for the use of 2 people. The 1 liter per min. doesn't seem to hold true. I used the water filter in 3 different clean and clear streams and had to clean the filter several times. I filterd 4 liters of water in one sitting and it took forever! I had to clean the filter after every liter to regain flow. I do have to say that field cleaning was very fast and easy to do. Overall I'm still happy with the product and would buy it all over again. I was 100% confident that I wouldn't get sick and I'd rather filter than chemically treat. Next time I'll rubberband a couple of coffee filters around the prefilter and see how that works out.

Comments about MSR Miniworks EX Water Filter:

Average performing pump. Only output the claimed rate when brand new. Filter requires frequent cleaning even after filtering clean looking water. Could not pump more than 2L at a time without cleaning. Fortunately the cleaning process is quick and easy. The pump mechanism seems to be robust, and it is easy to pump as we had to produce 4 to 6L at a time.

I have had this for 7 years, and am still on the first filter. Has filtred approximately? figure 6 trips per month, 7 months a year...alot of water.I once blew out the umbrella valve due to stupidity, Manufacturer sent me..not 1, not 2 but THREE replacements for ZERO cost, also sent me..free...other spare parts, 'O' ring and duckbill valve. The key to long life for his unit is to clean the filter often..after every trip or 5-10 quarts depending on water quality, once in Colorado, I cleaned it after every quart 'cause of spuce debris in the water, very fine, brown dusty stuff.I use an old tooth brush.Excllent unit, [...]

It filters water. I'm assuming it works as designed and advertised as I've never gotten sick from drinking water that's been filtered through it. It is easy to use and clean. I did like the fact that you can attach it directly to several different water containers.

It does require well over the suggested 1 min. to fill a 32 oz bottle. This would be the only con in my opinion.

Water is filtered very well and the unit is easily cleaned for storage.

Price is reasonable for an item of this nature.

You can use this with a narrow mouth analgesic, however you will need to keep the alignment because it will not secure to the bottle opening.

Does the difference between the sweetwater's .2 filtration and the miniworks .3 really make a difference?

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

It depends on what you are filtering. For back country applications in the USA probably not. For applications over seas a .2 would be better.

what filters out more stuff or is a finer filter the miniworks or sweetwater.

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

The miniworks will filter absolutely to .3, where as the sweetwater will filter to .2 so the sweetwater would give slightly better filtration capability.
